Astro Camera

There will be a solar eclipse across much of Mexico, the U.S.A., and Canada on 8 April 2024. I thought about putting together a Raspberry Pi 5, Raspberry Pi HQ Camera, a telephoto lens, and building a motorized mount to move the camera to keep the sun in frame. I came across an interesting build that gets me quite a bit of what I would need for the motorized mount. I’ve been working to put it all together, but there may be too much to piece together before the eclipse. I may scale it back a bit to just move my digital SLR to track the sun. We’ll see how it goes. I’m not in the path of totality, but we will be able to see a partial eclipse. I’m hopeful that we will have a sunny day, even though we have more cloudy days this time of year.

I found the mount on YouTube by Isaac879. His project is  3D Printed DSLR Camera Pan Tilt Mount (Arduino/Stepper Driven) 2020.

I plan to add some details on the project build and lessons learned. I do not plan to work on it after the eclipse as I would like to return to the speech timer project and wrap it up.

Thanks for reading.
